Databases typically aggregate the data from many individual contributors. What should the metrics measure? Impact of the database (solvable) or of specific contributions (unsolved IMHO). And the problem is almost recursive, there are databases aggregating data from other databases, etc.
Data Metrics Workshop
Do you have ideas for metrics or approaches to measure the use and value/impact of data repositories, knowledgebases or specific datasets in data resources?
Share or vote on ideas before the NIH Virtual Workshop on Data Metrics on February 19, 2020, from 9 AM - 3:30 PM EST. The workshop organizers may select ideas for panel discussions. The workshop is supported by the NIH Office of Data Science Strategy and aligns with the recommendations in the NIH Data Science Strategic Plan.
The workshop announcement, agenda and registration form can be found here: https://www.scgcorp.com/Metrics2020.
Click on the "IDEAS" tab or scroll down to see submitted ideas. Log in to vote, or comment on a submitted idea or share your ideas, best practices, or use cases on Data Metrics for repositories, knowledgebases, and datasets.
Are there existing standards or methodologies for assessing research data value and reach? Is this the most interested topic in the workshop?
Are there any existing web usage tools or website that are already gathering usage for sites? What are the thoughts of understanding how they work and use their data?
